Volunteer Data and Technology Manager
We're looking for a Volunteer Data and Technology Manager to join Blue Wave's volunteer leadership team.
Role Overview
The Data and Technology Manager is a key volunteer leadership role responsible for managing the back-end data that powers our sales and fulfillment process. This person will work with our Data Director to maintain the integrity of our data systems, ensure that the right information reaches the right people at the right time, and help the organization make data-informed decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with our Data Director to own and maintain the organization's core data systems, including order records, customer/writer contact information, and address lists.
- Process incoming orders accurately and ensure order data flows correctly through our fulfillment pipeline.
- Prepare and deliver clean address and assignment lists to the Logistics & Shipping Manager prior to each kitting cycle.
- Track order status from purchase through delivery and flag discrepancies or issues to the appropriate team members.
- Maintain data hygiene: identify and resolve duplicate records, outdated contacts, and data entry errors.
- Generate regular reports on order volume, fulfillment status, and other key operational metrics.
- Support leadership with data exports, mail merges, or custom data pulls as needed.
- Help evaluate and improve data workflows and tools to increase accuracy and efficiency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data-related questions from volunteers and leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Comfortable with programming in JavaScript and Python
- Proficiency with spreadsheet tools (Google Sheets or Excel) — pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data validation, and similar functions.
- Experience with databases, CRMs, or data management platforms (e.g., Airtable, Action Network, EveryAction, or similar) is a plus.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy.
- Ability to identify patterns and flag anomalies in data sets.
- Comfortable translating operational needs into data structures and tracking systems.
- Strong written communication skills for documenting processes and reporting to leadership.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple data tasks across an active, fast-moving operation.
- Passion for progressive causes and civic engagement.
Time Commitment
We estimate a commitment of approximately 5-10 hours per week with additional time required during peak periods such as large campaign launches or high-volume ordering cycles. Much of this work can be done asynchronously on a flexible schedule. This is a volunteer position.
