Dear Blue Wave Postcard community,
The work continues — and I’m honored to be in this fight with you all. I’m Katie Malzbender, and I’m thrilled to be on board as the new Executive Director of Blue Wave Postcards.
It's been an eventful start to 2026, to say the least. Just a few days into the year, the President invaded Venezuela and abducted its president. A few days later, militarized immigration forces occupying Minneapolis killed Renee Macklin Good as she attempted to drive away from them. Weeks later, they struck again, killing Alex Pretty as he attempted to shield someone from being teargassed. All the while, they’ve separated families, detained immigrants and citizens alike because of the color of their skin, and deported thousands of people who have committed no crime. Trump’s FBI raided election offices in Fulton County, Georgia, seizing sensitive voting information from the 2020 elections and the administration has continued to pressure secretaries of state across the country to release their sensitive voting information. This is just scratching the surface of the unprecedented abuses this administration continues to perpetrate and each one makes me grateful to be part of Blue Wave Postcards.
I’m writing today not to remind you of these horrors, but to commit to work with you all to stop them. I’ve spent the last 15 years working in political organizing and advocacy both on electoral campaigns getting out the vote for Democrats up and down the ballot and at national nonprofit advocacy organizations like the ACLU and The Climate Reality Project. I’ve worked on issues ranging from trans rights to immigrant rights to worker protections to clean energy to democracy protection, and I’ve seen through that work how crucial it is to elect allies who share our values in order to do that work and bring about meaningful positive change for everyone in the United States.
Blue Wave has built a strong foundation with an incredible roster of activists nationwide, and I truly believe that in a time when so many of our voter contact methods are becoming less and less effective — people unsubscribe from text messages, don’t answer calls from unknown numbers, don’t open their doors for canvassers, and ignore social media and ads — our postcards can break through to voters with a hand-written, human touch.
This year, we’ll prioritize working on elections that are critical to protecting democracy and civil rights and that we know we can have an impact on. Some of these races will be big well-publicized senate or congressional races, others may be smaller ballot initiatives or state boards and commissions that aren’t getting as much national attention. We’ll need you throughout the process, and I’m so grateful to you for being part of the team.
Onward!
Katie Malzbender
