Bonding Through Activism {Guest Post}

Our Civic Supper group began in the primaries ahead of the pandemic (2020) and we wrote letters and postcards to voters by campfire through the fall. We have stuck together, sometimes bringing in new friends but always maintaining our core group.  We gather at my house and I make a simple vegetarian dinner for everyone, as folks are often stretching to engage in civic action after long workdays.  We write for at least an hour, break for dinner, write a bit more, have some dessert and try to end by 8:30.

We have mailed thousands of postcards, but also formed bonds that take us deeper between election seasons. We’ve written testimony for bills we care about, engaged in a study circle, and supported each other’s community service.  We also help others access postcards for their own parties, and estimate that we’ve circulated more than 15,000 cards in our community for 2024 elections — including 10,000 Blue Wave Postcards. Thank you for making it easy!
